What is SEO ?

SEO is the abbreviation of search engine optimisation this is an internet marketing process which is used throughout the internet by many companies and singular websites.

Search engine optimisation is the process of increasing the amount of traffic received through the search engines, usually referred to as natural or organic optimisation. The concept is quite simple in theory however the strategies used to prove such concept are very time consuming.

The theory goes that you identify 4-5 keywords which are both relevant to your overall website and each particular web page. These keywords are then used to be implemented within certain areas of your website using on page SEO. On page SEO focuses on two main areas the head section and body section.

With in the head section you focus on the title tags and Meta tags these are edited to include your keywords. The body section is where the main chunk of your content is included whether it's your article or sales page. This section includes many different tactics and tips which can be implemented to improve your search engine rank.

Through the process of SEO and in particular on page SEO your website is optimised to meet the search engines criteria and to be respected by the algorithm which they use to calculate SERPs (Search engine results page).

Although I have mainly discussed on page SEO there is also off page SEO. As you can probably guess off page SEO takes place away from your website however it still affects your websites rankings.

The main focus of off page SEO is link building this being the process of increasing the amount of internal and external links to your website. (Will Blears)
